Our Story
WHO WE ARE
Call-A-Ride is an independent, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated solely to transporting ambulatory Seniors (60 years & older) to their points of need and connection throughout Greenwich, CT. We value and serve the needs of our community to connect with their doctors, hairdressers & barbers, banks, library, religious organizations, and, of course, their friends.
WHAT WE DO
Call-A-Ride is all about connection. Getting Seniors to and from their destinations and home within the Greenwich area. The only FREE transportation available in Greenwich, we’re here to drive door-to-door to and from any location a client might need. We have 3 cars available Monday-Friday driven by fully-insured, cautious, friendly drivers. Some of our riders use us for their regular-standing doctors appointments. Others just call on us sporadically as needed. And we pride ourselves on being there regardless of the situation.

CHURCH SERVICE
Our History
Call-A-Ride, established in 1975, was the brainchild (and dream) of Elaine Reddin (a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church), Rev. George Pera of First Presbyterian Church of Greenwich, and Father Vincent O’Connor of St. Catherine’s in Old Greenwich. Together they recognized the need and opportunity to serve the over 60-year-old residents of Greenwich to access the locations and resources that provide them medical services, physical activity, and vital social interaction. From a humble beginning of just one station wagon and driver, we can now claim three comfortable sedans, a full-time dispatcher, and over 50 dedicated volunteer drivers.

Meet The Team
Call-A-Ride is all about people. The people who manage our organization, the people who volunteer their time to drive, and most importantly, our clients who rely on us for our service. Our dispatchers, our drivers and our Board of Directors are here for you.
DISPATCHERS
Our dispatchers know the meaning of the word ‘service’. Available by phone Monday-Friday from 9:00am to 3:00pm, they schedule the rides, assign the drivers, organize the daily shifts, ensure there’s ample time to get our riders to their respective destinations, assist with directions when needed, and check up along the way to confirm that all is on schedule. Efficient, professional, and friendly – that’s who’s at the helm.

DRIVERS
From its humble beginnings of just a couple dedicated volunteers, Call-A-Ride now claims a cast of over 50 volunteer drivers. They take pride in being on-time, courteous, and, most of all safe and reliable. And they’ll likely tell you that they get as much (or more) satisfaction out of driving for their clients as the passengers themselves do!

Finance professionals, marketing executives, representatives from several religious organizations, and retired individuals committed to giving back to the people of their hometown, many Board members started as Call-A-Ride drivers……. and several still are!
